Radio Songs of the 30s and 40s Featured in Holiday Singalong Concert

This December visitors can enjoy a special concert of classic radio standards with local tune smiths, Prudence Johnson and Dan Chouinard. In support of the Minnesota Historical Society's newest exhibit, "Minnesota’s Greatest Generation: The Depression, The War & The Boom," Johnson and Chouinard share holiday interpretations of 30s and 40s standards in voice and piano. The program will be held in the History Center's 3M Auditorium, where visitors can join in the fun and sing along!

"A Radio Holiday" is offered on Saturday Dec. 5 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $15 or $10 for members of the Minnesota Historical Society. Ticket price includes museum admission. Guests are encouraged to visit the "Minnesota's Greatest Generation" exhibit before or after the program.

Dan Chouinard is a Minnesota pianist, accordionist and storyteller. He's appeared on Minnesota public television and MPR, as have several of his collaborations with Ann Reed, Peter Ostroushko and Patricia Hampl. Dan occasionally performs on "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor, and worked as rehearsal accompanist with Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin and Lindsay Lohan on the film.

Also a veteran of the broadcast and film versions of "A Prairie Home Companion," Prudence Johnson has gained recognition on and off the screen. A Hamline University graduate, Johnson received a McKnight Fellowship for her work with the music of Hoagy Carmichael. Johnson has released more than 10 studio albums and appeared in two feature films.
